Yosef, a poor Jew known for his devotion to Shabbos, spends generously L’Kavod Shabbos, trusting that “Hashem will pay it back”.  His wealthy, uncharitable neighbor is determined to drive Yosef out of the neighborhood, fearing that the value of his house is decreasing because of Yosef bringing in “poor people”. The neighbor even hires people to sell wood at half price to destroy Yosef’s livelihood. The neighbor’s attempts backfire, and he is warned by a doctor that his entire wealth will be “transferred to Yosef.  To prevent this, the neighbor sells his vast estate for a single gem and buries the proceeds. As Yosef purchases a large fish for Shabbos, he makes a shocking discovery inside.
